On Friday 21 February at 10.00, we started a new series of events with the name CS Breakfast. The first breakfast took place in Media Factory Auditorium in Arabia.
In this new event, we plan to get together once a month on a Friday morning with a guest outside CS community joining us each time. In this way, we will get to know different academic programs close to CS, company representatives or creative minds that are dealing with topics related to sustainability. The locations will vary.
In the first breakfast last Friday, our guest was Janna Pietikäinen, the full-time lecturer of multidisciplinary environmental studies in Helsinki University, who serves all faculties of University of Helsinki. Janna Pietikäinen also acts a student advisor and is in charge of collaborations within University of Helsinki and within Finland in general.
The event first started with the breakfast, which we tried to make as healthy as possible, with basic ingredients varying from salads to cheese, from fruits to a cake. At around 10.15, after a brief introduction by Tiina Laurila, Janna took the stage and made a detailed presentation of Helsinki University Center for the Environment, HENVI program, master and doctoral level of studies.

After the presentation, the event continued with a Q&A. The students were quite interested in getting to know the program and with some of them it was evident that new relationships and collaborations, both in university level and within students of both universities can be established. The event ended with a free discussion between participants.
As of Monday February 24th, we are starting now to work on the next breakfast event. If there is a specific field that you would like to get to know, or a specific program, please feel free to suggest new guests for the CS Breakfast events in the future. You can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for your suggestions or you can visit me (Aslihan) in Media Factory (but we might be moving soon..) to talk to me in person.
Have a lovely week!
