One key scientific challenge of tomorrow is to provide policy advice for legitimate, fair and evidence-informed sustainability transformation. ESEE 2019 will contribute to this challenge by exploring the theories and applications of co-creation: an epistemic process that merges inter- and transdisciplinary science and public deliberation with different phases of the policy cycle. The summer school will focus on policy co-creation, the case being integrated marine spatial and land use planning, with the aim of co-creating networks of sustainability policies reconciling ecological, economic and cultural values. The purpose of the summer school is twofold: to discuss critical features that make a policy process co-creative and to learn to design a transdisciplinary project based on the approach of co-creation.
