Creative Teamwork is the first compulsory course for all students in Creative Sustainability Programme. This year we have had a great chance to organize the course in Suomenlinna Island in Helsinki. Suomelinna is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the most popular places in Finland to visit.
“In Creative Teamwork course, we wanted to provide a real life case for new students, where they could observe, explore and touch the real case” Paula Siitonen, the teacher of the course states. She believes that new students offer great potentials to the development of the land since they bring new insights, coming from different cultures, disciplines and backgrounds.
Creative Teamwork is the official kick-off course of CS. The main objective of the course included familiarizing students with participating teamwork as well as learning facilitation and communication skills. In addition, students had a chance to deal with the important topic of “sustainability developments in Suomenlinna”.
The course was organized in three intensive days. The first day consisted of introductions and teamwork exercises as well as a site visit. During the site visit, representatives of the Suomenlinna governing body guided students around the Island, helped them to explore the site and discussed the topics related to the development of the Island.
In the second day, some CS teachers and experts joined the course and helped students to practice facilitation and communication skills in groups. In the final day, 6 teams of students organized very lively and innovative workshops in regard with the challenges and opportunities of Suomenlinna (See the titles below). Paula says “Students managed to create valuable ideas and we hope Suomenlinna governing body use them in the future developments of the Island“.
Creative Sustainability programme would like to thank Suomenlinna governing body and locals for their friendly cooperation in organizing and running the course.
